Chelsea are poised to challenge Real Madrid for Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen in the summer transfer window.
The young defender has caught attention with his performances on the south coast this season. Huijsen earned his Spain debut in their 2-2 draw with the Netherlands on Thursday, following his impressive form for Bournemouth. Real Madrid have reportedly been monitoring him closely and plan to submit a bid this summer. Huijsen is known to be an admirer of Los Blancos.
According to MARCA, Chelsea have also expressed strong interest in the young Spanish defender. The Blues have heavily invested in emerging talent in recent seasons, and signing the 19-year-old would align with that strategy. However, MARCA reports that Huijsen is only considering a move to Real Madrid this summer.
Although Huijsen opted to play for the Spanish national team, he was born in Amsterdam to Dutch parents. He gained Spanish citizenship in 2024 and made his senior international debut against his birth nation.
Huijsen is expected to start in Spain’s second-leg UEFA Nations League quarter-final against the Netherlands on Sunday. The young defender made his debut after Pau Cubarsà suffered a first-half injury.
