Revealed: The significant fee Chelsea must pay Man Utd if they opt against permanently signing Jadon Sancho, as a get-out clause surfaces.

Chelsea will be required to pay a substantial fee to Manchester United if they choose not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

English winger Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea from Manchester United on a season-long loan last summer. As part of the agreement, the Blues are obligated to sign him permanently for £25 million ($32.3m). However, if they opt against a permanent transfer, a clause in the deal requires them to pay a fixed £5 million fee to the Red Devils, according to The Athletic.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sancho made an impressive start at Chelsea, providing an assist in each of his first three Premier League games for the west London club. However, his form has since declined, managing only two goals and one more assist in the following 20 league matches. This underwhelming return has sparked doubts about whether Chelsea should make his move permanent, and the existence of the get-out clause only adds to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

DID YOU KNOW?

In January, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his support for the player, stating: “For me, he’s doing very well. I am quite surprised with Jadon because I knew Jadon already (from seeing him at his previous clubs) and I know what I expected from him, but in terms of being consistent, he’s doing very well. Apart from a short part of the season (early November) when he had some problems. When he was out ill but for the rest he has been very good. I expected him to do well, but for all the players doing well for a long period is not easy, and he has been doing well for a long period already. He’s doing well, now he just needs to continue going in that way.”

WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

Maresca’s team, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, will return to action on April 3 when they face London rivals Tottenham. Sancho will be eager to build momentum in that match, having found the net in the previous encounter.
