Patrice Evra delivers harsh career advice to ex-Man Utd teammate Wayne Rooney: ‘Stop managing.’
Since retiring, former England skipper Rooney has taken on four managerial roles. While he impressed under challenging conditions at Derby County, the club ultimately suffered relegation from the Championship.
Rooney’s next stint saw D.C. United miss the MLS playoffs, followed by a disastrous 83-day spell at Birmingham – where he failed to meet the ambitions set by co-owner Tom Brady and the club’s hierarchy.
His most recent failure came at Plymouth, where he lasted just 25 matches before a mutual contract termination. Both the Pilgrims and Birmingham – now League One leaders – have shown marked improvement since parting ways with Rooney.
Given this turbulent managerial record, former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra shared blunt advice during a conversation with Park Ji-sung on ShootforLoveYT
“That’s why they [Birmingham] get relegated. I said: ‘No, please stop being a manager, it’s not for you’. And he keeps going somewhere and gets sacked again… and when he leaves, they win.”
Since departing Plymouth Argyle, Rooney has remained out of management. While the Manchester United legend (and club’s record goalscorer) remains open to new opportunities, he’s currently embracing the less pressurized world of media punditry.
