Michail Antonio returned to West Ham for the first time in nearly three months following a horrific car crash that resulted in a broken leg.
On December 7, Antonio was involved in a devastating car crash, colliding with trees and remaining trapped in his Ferrari for over 45 minutes before firefighters freed him from the wreckage. It was later confirmed that the Jamaican international had sustained a broken leg and needed surgery. He has now made his first return to the Olympic Stadium since the accident, ahead of West Ham’s match against Newcastle United.
Antonio received a warm welcome from West Ham at the Olympic Stadium in London before their Premier League match against Newcastle United on Monday, as Graham Potter’s team aims for a third consecutive victory in the English top-flight.
West Ham fan group Ironworks Alliance revealed their plans to display a banner supporting Antonio during his presentation at the Olympic Stadium. As the Jamaican international was introduced, fans in the North Stand unveiled a tifo that read: “Michail Antonio: Our Number Nine.”
The West Ham star has resumed running and remains hopeful of returning before the end of the season. However, his comeback will depend on whether his body can withstand the physical demands.
