Ruben Amorim gave a frank evaluation of Manchester United’s performance while sharing his vision for future transfers..
Since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, Ruben Amorim has faced challenges improving Manchester United’s form, casting uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford. The team sits 15th in the league and has only secured one win in their last five matches across all competitions. Ahead of their Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday, the Portuguese coach offered a candid evaluation of his squad.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, the 40-year-old said: “In terms of the results, it’s bad. Also, the performances are not improving a lot, to be honest. But the good thing is that we are learning a lot. We are changing a lot of things, but you cannot see it. Here in Carrington, the way we want to do things. I’m understanding the players and doing, in my head, what is the future of the squad.
“And that can be really important next year, but there is also a risk, when you are planning and doing and thinking to the future, you have to pay attention to the present. And the present is really hard in the moment because the results and the performances are not there.”
When asked about the positives in his team, Amorim said, “I notice progress in the small details of our game. It may be hard to see, but I can see it. We’ve improved over the last two matches before facing Real Sociedad, especially in how we maintain possession. Our central defenders are playing with more confidence and adopting a different style.”
Amorim highlighted individual player improvements, saying, “When they perform well, the team plays better. Josh is progressing, especially with slight position changes. We’re also working on finding a better role for Bruno, though his versatility makes him vital. Even after conceding against Ipswich, we stuck to our approach, which shows the team is gaining belief. Most of the progress is happening behind the scenes at Carrington, through our training intensity and ongoing efforts to improve.”
Following their home match against the Gunners on Sunday, Amorim’s team will take on Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash on March 13.
