Will Xabi Alonso soon join Real Madrid? Leverkusen's CEO admits a 'gentlemen's agreement' may allow the Spaniard to return to his old club, with Carlo Ancelotti under threat of dismissal.
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has suggested that Xabi Alonso may soon take over at Real Madrid as Carlo Ancelotti’s potential successor.

WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Athletic, Ancelotti is likely to depart Real Madrid this summer to become Brazil’s permanent manager before the 2026 World Cup. Reports indicate the CBF sent an official to Madrid during Real’s Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal to discuss terms with the Italian coach, whose team was eliminated from the tournament.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
As Ancelotti prepares to leave the Bernabeu, Leverkusen manager Alonso appears ready for a homecoming to Real Madrid. The German club’s CEO has now strongly hinted at the Spanish tactician’s impending move.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID
In an interview with The Athletic, Leverkusen CEO Carro stated: “He has no exit clause, but we have a gentlemen’s agreement. If a team he has played for comes, we will sit down and talk about it and we will not put any obstacles in the way.”

WHAT NEXT FOR XABI ALONSO?
Currently, Alonso’s full attention remains on Leverkusen as they prepare for their Bundesliga clash against Augsburg on April 26.
